Scary Moments

With all the discussions with my doctor given our circumstance, I am aware of the possibility that my pregnancy may not be a walk in the park.  That is why, as soon I learned that I was pregnant, I observed strict house arrest which is also based on doctor’s orders.  I still tried to do some easy household chores as long as I do not tire myself.

However, in my 8th week (November 17, 2011), I saw blood when I went to the bathroom.  I was shocked and I cried.  Good thing my sister-in-law and her husband were at home with me so they took me to Makati Medical Center (MMC).   While in the taxi, I was able to recover from my shock and I calmly called bibi to tell him what happened.  I told him that I will just call him again for further developments.  Bibi did not wait for that call as I saw him a few minutes after we have arrived at MMC.  I have to be confined for observation.  The verdict – the bleeding was caused by placenta previa.   It is “generally defined as the implantation of the placenta over or near the internal os of the cervix” (mababa ang inunan).  This condition is more common to appear in the 2nd or 3rd trimester but given our circumstance, our doctor said we should not be surprised why this happened.  Our fears were lessened since the good news is that our little Buting is not affected.  Buting proved this by showing off strong heartbeats during our daily Doppler scans. Buting even gave bibi and I a very unforgettable moment.  During ultrasounds, the husband cannot enter the room unless called in by the doctor.  After focusing Buting on the screen, the sonologist said, “Papasukin na si daddy.”  As soon as bibi entered the room, Buting quickly raised an arm as if saying “Hi tatay! I am doing ok!” Bibi and I were so happy knowing that Buting is alright.  After staying in the hospital for 14 days, on November 30, we were finally discharged but was put under complete bedrest and some medication.  At least bibi and I were able to celebrate our 6th wedding anniversary in the comforts of our home on December 3.  Come December 5, at around 2AM, I have spotted again.  We went back to the hospital and stayed there until December 7.  I was again under complete bedrest and medication.  By the time of my check-up on January 4, 2012, there were no spotting incidents and I was very happy.  The doctor advised for a gradual increase in activity while continuing the medication.  On February 6, I was again rushed to the hospital.  It is possible that I may have overworked myself especially on the last 3 days prior to the Feb 6 spotting (ang kulit ko kasi).  Because this is the third time already, I am more in control of my emotions so I calmly called bibi to pick me up from the house, asked for lunch and requested for a bag for all the things I would need in the hospital since I am already expecting I would be confined again.  This time, it took us 6 days before we were discharged.

On March 3, on my 35th birthday, we returned to our doctor for my regular check-up.  She advised that I may now increase my activity gradually and reduced the dosage of my meds.

To date, March 6, there are no spotting incidents.   Hopefully, there won’t by any in the future…
