New Year Tradition

When I was growing up, New Year’s Eve is just a normal night with lots of noise and smoke.  We do not have a grand meal with the family unlike others who have medya noche with lots of relatives present.  It is not surprising since we rarely eat together as a family on regular days.  Well, that was just our family thing.  In addition, my mother has a bakery business, thus, during the December holidays, the bakery is very, very busy.  I was not unhappy since this means the business is doing good.  It is just by the time it’s New Year’s eve, everybody is really tired especially that we do not close the store until we feel there will be no more customers.  So, no medya noche.

When I got married, bibi has a thing for family meals.  He grew up with it.  Actually, his family and relatives love to have family get-togethers and gather for a feast.  It was a nice change so I am not complaining.

Bibi and I got married on December 3 so we were still very much in the honeymoon stage when we prepared for the New Year.  We just whipped up a simple meal since by that time, our funds were depleted because of the wedding.  Nevertheless, it was fun since we even dressed up so we can have a pictorial with the food. But as soon as the pictorial was over, we return to our pambahay clothes and eat. And that was the start of our New Year tradition.  Now, looking at our New Year photos bring back happy memories.  But this year’s New Year’s eve will be extra special as we will be welcoming the New Year with our little bundle of joy.  Can’t wait!
